Distributed and Centralized Power Sources

February 15th, 2011

Distributed power sources are sources that produce electricity on the spot. While centralized power sources, such as coal, are highly efficient, they cannot be used at home and are harmful for the environment. Also, the fact that the energy needs to travel over long distances causes energy leaks, and damage or disruption at a plant can cause regional power shortages.

Distributed power sources do not have these downsides. Many researchers feel that these are the power of the future, through systems such as solar panels. Warehouse rooftops, which are completely unused, are a great place to start. As the solar panels become cheaper and more resilient, the distributed power market will only get better.
